Is 2 hours enough for SEA LIFE?

For most SEA LIFE aquariums, two hours is enough. The figures differ by building, though, and talks, feeds and extras can stretch a visit.

SEA LIFE is a brand, not a place. About fifty aquariums share the name, and each is a separate building with its own size and layout. That is why a single answer to "how long" is misleading.

Below are the visit lengths given by the operator or the booking listing for each aquarium where a figure exists, followed by advice on when to arrive and what can add time to a visit.

The quick answer

Yes, for most of them. The operator estimates one and a half to two hours for London and Sydney, Melbourne is similar but up to three hours with talks, the Orlando listing says one to two hours, and the Minnesota listing says about an hour.

How long do people spend at SEA LIFE London?

The operator says most visitors spend around one and a half to two hours at SEA LIFE London.

With 14 zones over 3 floors, London is one of the larger SEA LIFE buildings, yet two hours still covers it at a steady pace. Families who stop for the penguins and the Rockpool may need the full two.

Ticket rules and the London Eye combo are covered in our SEA LIFE London tickets guide.

How long does SEA LIFE Sydney take?

The operator says most guests spend around one and a half to two hours. The Sydney listing gives about 2 hours.

Sydney has nine zones, including Shark Valley, Day and Night on the Reef and the Penguin Expedition raft ride. The raft ride is a fixed experience rather than a walk-past, so allow a little time for it within the two hours.

How long should you allow for SEA LIFE Melbourne?

The operator says one and a half to two hours, or up to three hours if you attend the talks.

Melbourne's spread of 12 zones, a 4D cinema and the Bay of Rays gives more reasons to stay. If you plan to catch the talks, budget a half day. Our Sydney and Melbourne guide compares the two in detail.

How long is a visit to SEA LIFE Orlando, Minnesota or Benalmadena?

The Orlando listing says one to two hours and the Minnesota listing says approximately an hour. For Benalmadena, visitors report about an hour.

  • Orlando (ICON Park): one to two hours on the listing.
  • Minnesota (Mall of America): about an hour on the listing.
  • Benalmadena (Costa del Sol): a small aquarium, about an hour by visitor accounts.
  • Arizona, Bangkok, Munich and Paris: not stated on the listings.

For the shorter visits, plan something else nearby on the same day: Minnesota and Arizona are inside malls, and Orlando sits within ICON Park.

What is the best time of day to visit SEA LIFE?

Opening time on a weekday outside school holidays is usually the calmest, because the narrow zones fill as the day goes on.

Hours vary by aquarium and by day. Sydney, for example, opens at 10am on weekdays, 9:30am at weekends and 9am in school holidays, with last entry at 4pm. Melbourne closes earlier on weekdays, with last entry at 3pm, than at weekends. Check the day you plan to go.

Arriving late is the main way people run short of time: last entry is commonly an hour before closing, which leaves little room for a full visit.

Can you leave SEA LIFE and come back the same day?

Not at every site. The Bangkok listing and the Paris listing both state no re-entry.

Where re-entry is not stated, assume you get one entry and plan meals and breaks around it. The Minnesota listing states no food or drinks and no large bags, so eat before you go in at Mall of America.

Bangkok's listing gives opening hours of 10:00 to 20:00, with feeds and talks between 11:30 and 16:30.

What adds time to a SEA LIFE visit?

Talks and feeds, 4D cinemas, touch pools and rides are the main things that lengthen a visit.

  • Talks and feeds: Melbourne's operator estimate rises to three hours with talks; the Bangkok listing gives a feeds and talks window of 11:30 to 16:30; Minnesota includes Ray Lagoon feeding.
  • 4D cinema: listed at Melbourne and Bangkok.
  • Touch pools: the Rockpool in London, Rockpool Ranger in Sydney, the Coastal Rockpool in Orlando and the bio-beach rockpool in Benalmadena.
  • Rides and extras: the Penguin Expedition raft in Sydney, the glass-bottom boat in Bangkok, and the behind-the-scenes tour and VR extra in Orlando.

Is SEA LIFE worth a full day?

Generally not on its own. The operator and listing figures put most visits at one to two hours, so it fits best as part of a day.

Plan it alongside a neighbouring attraction. In London that is the London Eye next door; in Orlando, Madame Tussauds in ICON Park; in Arizona, LEGOLAND Discovery Center next door. Combo tickets exist for each pairing, and they can make better use of a day than the aquarium alone.
